Phases Fitness the premier classical Pilates studio in North Arlington. We are committed to bridging the gap between volume fitness and the traditional small boutique fitness studio. We believe that any person who is seeking a safe & effective workout can have the best of both worlds at Phases Fitness.

What makes Century Pilates the best choice when committing to a regular Pilates practice?

Each of our comprehensively certified trainers are 3rd and 4th generation Pilates instructors with multiple certifications. It’s a rare treat to train with lineage instructors who are able to trace their educations back to the man, the myth, the Legend, Joseph H. Pilates. Our instructors know their stuff and are uniquely qualified with a minimum of 600 hours of training. Each instructor has mastered the art of teaching both private 1:1 training & group fitness classes.

Why are Century Pilates Group Classes more effective than similar franchise fitness models?

Simple! We have a higher standard. We are proud to be original. An undeniable perk of being a non-franchise Pilates studio is that we are able to deliver the most comprehensive Pilates programming without limitations.

The authentic Pilates system is as rich and robust as the century of history behind it. We know that Pilates is not our creation, but the life’s work of Joseph Pilates who developed his method as a system of exercise. We teach to the efficacy of Pilates high standard which is known for providing faster results that last longer. As a fully equipped teacher training studio, we stay true to the original teachings of Joseph Pilates and therefore provide our students the most extensive & effective Pilates experience in the country.

What’s the difference between classical and contemporary Pilates?

Maybe you’ve heard that Classical Pilates is different than Contemporary Pilates. So what’s really the difference? Easy, there’s not one. Let’s debunk this vague misinformation by embracing what Joseph & Clara Pilates legacy means nearly 100 years later.

Joseph & Clara had many students whose lives they impacted profoundly through months, years, and even decades of personal training. Each student received a tailored repertoire of work best suited to their body’s unique needs. As the years multiplied, so did the Pilates method and his proteges along with their varied and unique perspective on what Pilates was. This is the flaw in the debate that Pilates can be Classical or Contemporary.

The truth is, Pilates is better described as the “style” or lineage that you teach or practice. At Century Pilates we teach a variety of Pilates styles whose lineage can be traced back to, Joseph Pilates’ original students, Romana Kryzanowska, Kathy Grant, Carola Trier, Bruce King, Ron Fletcher, Eve Gentry, to name a few.
